Duck Pluckers Ball Sept. 16 Raises Money for New AMH Ambulance

The public is invited to Alton Memorial Health Services Foundation’s 14th annual Duck Pluckers, Deer Skinners, and Fish Hookers Ball at NILO Farms on Sept. 16. The event raises funds for a new Alton Memorial Hospital ambulance. You may register for the event by clicking HERE.

Third Class of SIU Family Medicine Residents On Board

The third class of Alton Memorial Hospital’s SIU School of Medicine Family Medicine residents have begun making their rounds. Members of the Class of 2026 are Dr. Muhammed Owais Khan, Dr. Michael Iskander, Dr. Muhammad Abbas, Dr. Catherine Greene, Dr. Kyla Swain and Dr. Anne Ugabi. AMH now has a full roster of 18 residents on campus.

AMH Announces 8 Health Equity Scholarship Winners

Alton Memorial is helping eight area high school graduates with Health Equity Scholarships in 2023. This year’s winners are Anbrielle Blake, Eden Finger, Mowaysha Johnson and Katelyn Czarnecki of Alton High School; Kylee Golden and Dakota McDonnell of Civic Memorial High School in Bethalto; Thomas Haire of Collinsville High School; and Shelby Rainey of Granite City High School.

Opioids Settlement Helps Care for New Mothers, Families

Thanks to a successful grant request in May, the hospital is receiving more than $73,000 this year to help pregnant and postpartum women who may be facing health inequities due to social and economic factors.

Local Group Donates Baby Hats to OB Department

The Riverbend Yarn Bombers set a goal to make 500 baby hats for donation to Alton Memorial Hospital’s Women’s Health and Childbirth Center. On April 17, it was bombs away. The actual total was 527 hats brought to AMH, a donation warmly appreciated by WHCC manager Jessica Mossman and her staff.

Warm Hand Off Counselor Has ‘Walked the Walk’

When talking about any issue, people would rather speak with someone who has “walked a mile in their shoes.” For clients in Alton Memorial Hospital’s Warm Hand Off substance abuse program, Louis Hollingsworth has walked a few marathons.

Urology of St. Louis Office Now Open at AMH

Free Skin Cancer Screenings Fourth Tuesday of Each Month

Alton Memorial Hospital, a member of the Siteman Cancer Network, offers free monthly skin cancer screenings from 4-6 p.m. on the fourth Tuesday of each month in 2023 (not in November or Decemter). The screenings are by appointment only in Suite 101 of Medical Office Building A on the AMH campus. Call 618-463-7220 or visit www.altonmemorialhospital.org, then go to Classes & Events to register.

AMH Auxiliary Seeking Wheelchair Sponsorships

The AMH White Cross Auxiliary is continuing in its mission to replace all of the hospital's old wheelchairs with newer Staxi wheelchairs in its “Wheels of Love” campaign. The Auxiliary has added four new chairs recently in addition to the 10 that were purchased early last fall. If anyone is interested in sponsoring a chair, please contact Meg Dorris at 618-530-7006 or Irene McLaughlin at 618-530-8589. 

Mower Accident Leaves Brighton Family Thankful for EMS Team

A quick response from Alton Memorial Hospital’s Emergency Medical Servives – particularly Matt Jolly and Ashley Streubel – saved the day for 8-year-old Easton Crane of Brighton last summer.
