The laboratory at Alton Memorial Hospital is committed to improving the health of the people and communities we serve by providing accurate, timely and quality laboratory test results. Alton Memorial operates a full service laboratory that provides testing support for both inpatient and outpatient areas. The laboratory at Alton Memorial Hospital is fully accredited by the College of American Pathologists (CAP) and the Joint Commission (TJC).

Our services are provided within a professional environment that is patient- and physician-focused. The laboratory is under the excellent medical direction of Dr. Susan Rayne, M.D., a board-certified clinical and anatomic pathologist. Alton Memorial Laboratory has the consultation of six other pathologists that are board certified in clinical as well as anatomic pathology. Testing is performed by highly trained and excellent clinical laboratory (CLS) and medical laboratory scientists (MLS). The laboratory provides convenient service 24 hours a day, seven days a week for emergency and inpatient testing.
Our outpatient draw center located in the Duncan Lobby behind registration is open for service the following hours:
Monday through Friday – 6 a.m. to 5:15 p.m.
Saturday – 7-11:30 a.m.
Sunday – Closed.
There is also an outpatient lab draw center located in Suite 105 of the Medical Office Building B on campus. Hours are 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
The laboratory at Alton Memorial Hospital notifies its physicians annually to order only tests that are medically necessary for Medicare and Medicaid beneficiaries. The United States Department of Health and Human Services, Office of the Inspector General, reports that a physician who orders medically unnecessary tests may be subject to civil penalties. Any clinical laboratory that follows the Model Compliance Plan for clinical laboratories established by the Office of the Inspector General must provide this type of annual notice to its clients.
