Becoming a parent means taking on the most important responsibility in the world, but you don't have to go it alone. Childbirth education programs at Alton Memorial Hospital help expectant parents prepare for everything from breast-feeding to life with new baby. Prepared Childbirth Class: This series of two classes includes information on the emotional and physical changes of pregnancy, birth, and the early days at home. Offered over two Tuesdays evenings or one Saturday morning/afternoon. (Lamaze and non-medication comfort techniques are NOT part of this class).
Introduction to Natural Childbirth: This class is meant as an introduction to options for those expectant parents interested in non-medicated childbirth. Offered one Tuesday evening four times per year.
Living with Baby: This class is designed to instruct parents on what to expect of their newborn in the hospital and basic baby care. Offered one Tuesday evening every other month.
Breastfeeding Basics: Focuses on the basic techniques needed for establishment of successful breastfeeding. Offered one Tuesday evening every other month.
Tours of the Women's Health & Childbirth Center: The Birth Center is always open and a staff member is generally available to guide your tour. No appointment is necessary, but you may wish to call 618.463.7455 to check room and staff availability immediately prior to your arrival.
