Alton Memorial Hospital was saddened to hear the news of the passing in late February of Randy Staton, a beloved member of the Housekeeping team for 42 years.

Randy was a team player who was as conscientious as anyone about getting a room set up for hospital event. He was very dedicated to his job and to AMH, and the hospital will miss him very much. The comments read about him at the 2019 employee banquet, when he marked 40 years at AMH, are worth remembering again:

“Since 1979, Randy has served under nearly a dozen managers and worked side by side with countless housekeepers who have since come and gone. His work ethic and character have made a lasting impression on the very core of Alton Memorial Hospital. He’s friendly, comical, caring and reliable. It doesn’t matter if it’s icy or cold, a weekend or a Monday, Randy is always willing to help those in need. His legendary status will live on forever, and even when he’s long gone for good, we expect future generations will hear whispers in the wind saying, ‘Live the dream.’ “

Alton Memorial Hospital employees and retirees donated $863 to Alton Memorial Health Services Foundation recently in memory of Randy. The Foundation purchased a plaque that now hangs next to the directory sign near the café entrance. As the St. Louis Cardinals were one of Randy’s favorites, the plaque includes Jack Buck’s famous saying, “That’s a winner!”
