New technology allows us to detect, stage and treat cancers more effectively and accurately than previously possible.

Alton Memorial Hospital participates in the national tumor registry, comparing results and techniques with other cancer treatment facilities nationwide. The Commission on Cancer (COC) of the American College of Surgeons recognizes the Hospital's Cancer Care Services for offering excellent cancer care. COC accreditation assures patients and physicians that the Hospital is properly diagnosing, staging and treating cancers.

Board-certified medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, surgeon specialists, pathologists, radiologists, pain medicine specialists and other physicians care for patients with cancer at Alton Memorial Hospital. Our expert multidisciplinary treatment team includes oncology certified nurses, radiation therapists, dietitians, chaplains, social workers and more. Our association with the Siteman Cancer Center allows us access to the resources of this National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center.

We offer the latest diagnostic technology providing doctors with detailed information to diagnose and treat the patient. In most cases, diagnostic testing is performed on an outpatient basis.

Finding the Right Treatment   
Following diagnosis, our doctors collaborate with patients and their families on a treatment plan based upon the type and severity of disease. Often, exceptional results are achieved without surgery. Some cases may require a combination of surgery and treatment. Treatment options can include highly isolated and targeted radiation therapy (IMRT), advanced chemotherapy techniques and a host of new drug therapies to increase survival and comfort the patient.
