Alton Memorial Hospital is teaming up with the Madison County Health Department and the Alton YWCA for a free breast health examination for Madison County women 21 and older who are uninsured or underinsured are eligible, as well as women who have not had a breast exam in the past year.
The program includes free clinical breast exams by a nurse practitioner, educational materials, one-on-one counseling with a registered nurse and a $10 gift card from Shop 'N Save for all eligible women who complete the screening. If follow-up care is recommended, mammogram appointments will be scheduled through the Madison County Health Department.
Other activities include a free lunch and activities for children, including a bounce house. Lunch provided by Subway on Broadway in Alton. Subway, Piasa Pain Clinic, Edwards Electric, CK's Coffee House @ The Works in Jerseyville, Godfrey Rental & Storage, The Work Center Inc, and Dodge Moving & Storage of Earth City, Missouri sponsor lunch.
This event is made possible through the Ticket for the Cure Fund administered through the Illinois Department of Public Health, Office of Women's Health. Alton Memorial Hospital recently received a $25,000 grant to offer a series of breast health screenings throughout the region late this year and early in 2009. The next one will take place Saturday, November 15, as part of Alton Memorial Hospital's annual Women's Wellness Fair.
