Alton Memorial Hospital offers outpatient testing for the diagnosis and treatment of various neurological disorders. Electroencephalography (EEG), which measures electrical brain activity, may be used in the diagnosis and treatment of brain tumors, seizures and strokes. Twenty-four hour ambulatory EEGs are also available.
Electromyography (EMG) is used to test nerves and muscles for damage and disease. It is often used to evaluate carpal tunnel syndrome and peripheral neuropathy (damage to the nervous system).
Visual Evoked Response (VER) testing is offered to detect optic nerve disorders related to the eye. Brain Auditory Evoked Response (BAER) testing may be used to detect hearing loss and other problems of the central nervous system.
